2007 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award
The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) confers the Asia Democracy & Human Rights Award (ADHRA) each year on one individual or institution that has demonstrated long-term commitment to and outstanding leadership in advancing democracy or advocating human rights through peaceful means in the region.
Each year's laureate receives an award sculpture and a grant of US$100,000 to contribute to support the ongoing work of the laureate and his or her organisation.
Nominations are open to the public. Nominations should be made by at least two credible international democracy or human rights organisations or individuals. The following are guidelines for nominations:
- The nominee shall have made concrete and significant contributions to the advancement of democracy or human rights movements.
- The nominee shall have a high level of integrity that is respected by others and should possess a strong spirit of altruism.
- The nominee shall have made creative and unique contributions to foster the development of regional democracy or human rights protection.
