Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Changemakers - an initiative of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public - focuses on "open sourcing social solutions" globally. Members of the Changemakers community include all visitors to the website, including social entrepreneurs, activists, investors, policymakers, and participants, in its online "open source" community, which aims to provide conceptual and practical leadership needed to help everyone become a changemaker.

Changemakers is a collaborative platform, where anyone can start a group on any issue they are passionate about. Here, they can connect to and share ideas and resources with other members of the group. As of May 2010, there were 490 active groups.

Both the "Places" and "Stories" sections feature interactive tools designed to enable changemakers to talk about their work with others and connect likeminded people.

The "Issues" tab includes resources organised into the following categories (with a multitude of topics within each category): children and youth, development and prosperity, environment and sustainability, health and fitness, human rights and peace, and public participation and engagement.

Changemakers also focuses on thematic, collaborative competitions designed to assist the social change community in working to spread, refine, and replicate innovations globally. Click here to learn more.
