Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Fast Car: Travelling Safely around the World

SummaryText
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO has produced a computer game on HIV and AIDS for youth (starting at 16 years) in English, Russian, and French. Fast Car: Travelling Safely around the World is a game that provides information on existing preventive practices, treatment, and care for HIV and AIDS.

The player can race on circuits on 5 different continents and virtually visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage sites (911 properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which the World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value). It also presents graphical images of sites and interesting facts about them as players race by.

There are 2 tracks for each continent - a Preliminary track and a Championship track. Every track has a set of check points. At the check point, one can take part in a mini-quiz and possibly earn a time bonus. In the mini-quiz, the player is asked a multiple-choice question related to HIV and AIDS prevention.
