Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

The Goi Peace Foundation - UNESCO International Essay Contest for Young People

The Goi Peace Foundation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) invite young people throughout the world to submit essays for the International Essay Contest for Young People. Entries are divided into two age categories for the awarding of prizes: up to 14 years and 15 - 25 years.

 

The competition’s theme is: "Creating the Future We Want: Future begins with the vision we hold now. What kind of future do you wish to create for yourself and the world? Please share your dream and ideas for making it a reality."

 

First, second, and third place and honourable mention entries in each category will receive the following prizes: (1st) 100,000 Yen, (2nd) 50,000 Yen, and (3rd and honourable mention) certificates and gifts. Multiple prizes will be given in all but the first place category. The first place winner will be invited to Japan to receive the award; travel expenses are paid by the sponsors.

Rules for the competition are:

  • Essays must be 800 words or fewer, printed or typed in English, French, Spanish, or German.
  • Each must include a cover page with the age category, title, name, address, telephone number, fax number, email address, nationality, age as of June 30 2012, gender, school name and grade, and word count.
  • Entries must be submitted by post or online.
  • Essays must be original and unpublished.
  • Essays must be written by one person.
  • Copyright of the essays will be assigned to the organisers.
