Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

This series of interviews in a slide show format features the work of 13 young people under the age of 40 - people who are working as young professionals in agricultural research for development (YPARD). Each interview is written to give insight into their roles, perspectives, experiences, and aspirations.

The book-style slide show is assembled for the 40th anniversary of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), a global partnership that unites organisations engaged in research for sustainable development with the funders of this work. The CGIAR is sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Bank.

The interviews focus on various communication-related initiatives, including topics such as the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in knowledge sharing, using ICT to move knowledge, map-making for collaboration, and modelling to demonstrate soil loss and to show small scale irrigation patterns.
