Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Instituto Latinoamericano de la Comunicación Educativa (ILCE) - México

Headquartered in Mexico, the Latin American Educational Communications Institute (ILCE) was created as an international organisation aimed at serving Latin American countries in different educational fields. ILCE's main objective is to contribute to education enhancement through the use of audiovisual and other resources. ILCE also promotes regional cooperation among its Latin American member countries - Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, and Venezuela - and international government agencies that deal with education.
Communication Strategies
ILCE began its work by encouraging the design, production, promotion, and use of audiovisual resources in the educational environment. ILCE has moved beyond this intitial focus to select materials from other educational, cultural, informative, scientific, and entertainment companies and institutions dealing with topics associated with basic and high school education. The materials, which are meant to address both teachers and students, are produced in different materials and formats (videocassettes, slides, pamphlets, books, diskettes, and CDs), as well as different periodical publications that are provided to the educational community in Latin America.

ILCE has equipped thousands of schools with computers, in addition to developing the daily School Network that connects public schools to the Internet. It also offers a set of online materials and services in multimedia format for teachers and students.
