Lessons in Cluster Development: The Cape Information Technology Initiative (CITI) 1998-2002

This report charts the history of the Cape IT Initiative (CITI), a cluster development agency for the ICT industry in the Western Cape province of South Africa that is widely regarded as a success. The aim of this report is to understand how this success has been achieved, to create learning material for future initiatives and to assist in planning for CITI's future development.

The publishers set out to achieve the following objectives:

• To document the story of the Cape IT Initiative, detailing its history from inception in 1998 to the present;
• To reflect CITI's role within the Western Cape IT cluster - especially some of the key industry and organisational linkages that have emerged over time;
• To analyse the CITI experience in order to axtract learnings for future cluster development initiatives.
